高级词汇：Elucidate 阐明，解释

▾ 表示观点站不住脚

简单词汇：unacceptable/unreasonable

高级词汇：Untenable 不堪一击的（观点，理论和立场）

例句1：This argument is untenable from an intellectual, moral and practical standpoint.

从知识，道德和现实角度来看，这种观点是站不住脚的。

例句2：The above arguments are untenable due to the following reasons.

因为以下的原因，以上的观点站不住脚的

▾ 聚集

简单表达：visit in groups/crowd the cities

高级词汇：Congregate  聚集 

例句1：Visitors congregated on Sunday afternoons to view public exhibitions.

游客们周日下午聚集起来观看公开展览。

例句2：New immigrants congregate in the cities, taking such service jobs as washing dishes and cleaning residences or offices.

新移民都聚集在城市，寻找服务性工作，诸如刷盘子，为家庭或办公室打扫房间等。

简单词汇：help economic development/develop economy

高级表达：prime the pump  采取措施使某事发展

但是无论何时经济减缓，新领导人都会说他们都不太可能去刺激经济发展的。

▾ 费用高的 

简单表达：Too high prices

高级表达：Exorbitant  (价格，费用)过高的

例句1：Exorbitant housing prices have created a serious shortage of cheap housing for the poor.

过高的房价使穷人能够负担得起的房源严重短缺。

例句2：The government should not impose exorbitant tax on people.

政府不应该对人们征收特别高的税。

▾ 减轻和改善

简单表达：improve

高分词汇：Ameliorate  改善，减轻（痛苦）；改良；变得更好

例句1：In every human being, there is a wish to ameliorate his own condition.

改善自己的境况的愿望每一个人都有。

▾ 大城市

简单表达：big city/large city  

提示：great city也可以表示城市的伟大，所以不一定是城市规模很大的意思，而是表示，城市历史意义重大。

高级表达：

metropolis/megacity（城市人口超过一千万的）超大型城市

major city 主要城市，比如中国的北京，上海，深圳这样的地方。

first-tier city 一线城市，按照经济发展来判断的城市类型

cosmopolitan city/international city  国际化大都市

▾ 经济发展

简单表达：

economic development

economic progress  

提示：经济发展已经是有发展的概念了，所以不用improve和“经济发展”一类的短语相搭配。

高级表达：

economy soar 经济飞速发展。

Economy develops at an alarming rate/at a stunning rate. 经济以惊人速度发展。

Economy develops by leaps and bounds. 经济长足发展。

Economy takes off. 经济腾飞。

简单表达：

高级表达：

Economic development is hindered./hampered. 经济发展受阻。

Economy is caught in a cycle of decline. 经济发展速度下降。
