比如,你在句子里见到了more… than…, less… than… I eat more apples than you….

At the same time, there is considerable evidence that the number of new companies starting up will be no higher this year than it was last year, and surely the new companies starting up this year will create no more jobs per company than did last year's start-ups.

Thus the chance of a predator finding the school is only slightly greater than the chance of the predator finding a single fish swimming alone.

Thus (the chance) of a predator finding the school is only slightly (greater than) (the chance) of the predator finding a single fish swimming alone.

所以比较的就是两个chance,但是这两个chance不太一样,因为后面的修饰不一样,一个是a predator finding the school,另一个是the predator finding a single fish,所以搞定!

At the same time, there is considerable evidence that(断点) the number of new companies starting up will be (no higher) this year (than) it was last year, and(断点)surely the new companies starting up this year will create (no more) jobs per company(than) did last year's start-ups.

the number of new companies starting up will be (no higher) this year (than) it was last year

我还有个问题:than之后的it was last year是啥结构捏?

Thus the chance of a predator finding the school is only slightly greater than the chance of the predator finding a single fish swimming alone (is great).

所以,自问自答:it就是前面的the number of new companies starting up,用was是因为时间变成last year了,所以肯定不能will be啦。

surely the new companies starting up this year will create (no more) jobs per company(than) did last year's start-ups

先理清楚no more… than的意思是:不多于;就是跟……

我又有个问题:为什么than之后是did last year's start-upsdid怎么不放在最后呢?

  • Oral narratives are no more likely than are written narratives to provide a disinterested commentary on events or people.

  • For example, a plant situated near a number of larger noncompliant competitors is less likely to attract the attention of local regulators than is an isolated plant, and less attention means lower costs.

  • Black workers were aware, through labor recruiters and the black press, that they could earn more even as unskilled workers in the North than they could as artisans in the South.

  • It suggests that simple prospecting methods still have a higher success rate in the discovery of gold deposits than do more modern methods.

Rather, in their day-by-day tactical maneuvers, these senior executives rely on what is vaguely termed "intuition" to manage a network of interrelated problems that require them to deal with ambiguity, inconsistency, novelty, and surprise; and to integrate action into the process of thinking.

these senior executives rely on sth to manage … (that…) and to integrate …

However, the Women's Trade Union League (WTUL), which had ceased in the late 1880s to oppose restrictions on women's labor, supported the eventually enacted proposal, in part because safety regulations were generally not being enforced in white lead factories, where there were no unions (and little prospect of any) to pressure employers to comply with safety regulations.

WTUL, (which…), supported the proposal, (because…), (where…)
